Valentine's Day – A History of Love

Valentine's Day, celebrated on February 14th, has evolved from its ancient Roman roots that are, in fact, gory. While nowadays, this day, rumoured to be named after the martyr Saint Valentine of Rome, has become synonymous with expressing love through gifts, romantic getaways, and special experiences, Valentine’s Day has its roots in his execution.

The origins of Saint Valentine are murky. The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, but at Fly Abeona we side with the one who sacrificed his life for love! Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage, believing unmarried men made better soldiers. Defying this decree, Saint Valentine continued to secretly marry couples, an act of defiance that ultimately led to his harsh execution.

Today, we celebrate Valentine’s Day by letting the language of love speak through gestures, and what better way to start this romantic escapade than by treating your loved one like the VIP in your life and boarding a private jet to a special destination to celebrate your love?

Family Day – Cherishing Togetherness

Family Day, a holiday celebrated in many Canadian provinces on the third Monday in February, this year on February 19th, is a more recent creation. Family Day originated in Alberta in 1990 to promote family values and spending time with loved ones. It is celebrated as Family Day in five Canadian provinces, while others celebrate it for varied reasons.

In Ontario, the day is a time for fun, relaxation, and creating lasting memories with loved ones.

So, whether you wish to organise a romantic getaway with your Bae for Valentine's, arrange a Family Day getaway, or even combine the two major events, trust Abeona to present you with two alluring destinations.

Montreal – A Blend of Culture and Romance

Montreal, Quebec's metropolis, is a city that thrives in winter. With its charming cobblestone streets, vibrant cultural scene, and a plethora of cozy, romantic spots, Montreal is a haven for lovers on Valentine's Day.

Imagine strolling through the snowy lanes of Old Montreal, warming up in a quaint café, or enjoying a candlelit dinner at a world-class restaurant in the company of your loved one

For families, the city is bustling with activities. This winter, come and experience the 14th edition of Luminothérapie! Venture out and explore the farthest reaches of the universe, inspired by the complexity of the cosmos and the forces that shape it. The 2024 exhibition features five colourful, majestic works lining Sainte-Catherine Street West as well as an original video projection that changes according to weather fluctuations. As soon as dusk falls, kids and adults are invited to stroll through the Quartier to enjoy works from here and elsewhere, all presented for the very first time in Montreal.

Take your Valentine’s or Family winter stroll through the Quartier des Spectacles to a whole new dimension!

New York City – The City That Never Sleeps

New York City needs no introduction. Its iconic skyline, Broadway shows, and endless attractions make it an exciting destination for any holiday.

For couples, a romantic carriage ride in Central Park, a visit to the top of the Empire State Building to reenact the kiss from “Sleepless in Seattle,” or an intimate dinner in a high-end restaurant makes for a luxurious Valentine's celebration.

Families will find no shortage of entertainment either. Go classical with visiting everything from the Statue of Liberty to the wonders of the American Museum of Natural History or embark on more unique adventures like a NYC Donut tour or experiencing soul food in Harlem. The sky is the limit!
